TASK 3 ONLINE LEARNING
OPEN UNIVERSITIES
AUSTRALIA
DIPLOMA OF EDUCATION
SUPPORT
I would like to do this course as there is always students
coming through a school who need that extra bit of help. Having the knowledge on how to do this
properly would be great. I’ve seen this
first hand volunteering at Beaconhills.
When they have their library classes these student with mild autism etc.
can take up the library teacher’s time and attention away from the other
students. There is only a limited time for the library class and having the
qualification to help out would be great for the student and keep the class
rolling along on schedule and the teacher sane.
Also, if you have a job in the library and it is only part time and you
would like more hours to work, the opportunity could be there to take on a
second role assisting teachers in the classroom.
BACHELOR OF ARTS
(LIBRARIANSHIP AND CORPORATE INFORMATION MANAGEMENT)
With this degree, well, it would open up a whole lot of jobs
in the library industry. You gain so many useful skills in this degree. Also, your newly acquired skills in IT, budgeting, management etc. would be useful to gain employment in other industries.
DEAKIN UNIVERSITY
DIPLOMA OF LANGUAGE
In this diploma you have a choice of learning either Arabic,
Chinese or Indonesian. Speaking another
language is such and in demand skill. A
lot of jobs I have looked at for libraries whether public or schools would like
an employee to speak another language.
The Melbourne City Library looks for this skill. A lot depends on the
area that the school or public library is situated. If you have a lot of migrant population it’s
a necessity. The qualification also has
the advantage of being able to travel overseas and gain some sort of
employment. Bonus!! I’m not sure which language I would choose,
they are all very in demand although Julia Gillard would have me choose Chinese.
OPEN COLLEGES
DIPLOMA OF MANAGEMENT
Everything relies on business management. It is a qualification that applies to just
about every industry, you can’t lose. I read an article that said library
technicians are taking on more of the roles of running a library as they are
cheaper to employ (especially at the moment with businesses cutting back their
budgets any way they can). So this
diploma would help you get a foot, leg and maybe a hip in the door. It would also be a great qualification have
to go onto anything else in life you may want to do.
CHARLES DARWIN
UNIVERSITY
Bachelor of Education
Secondary Teaching (Information Technology)
Becoming a teacher, especially in the area of information
technology where there is a shortage of staff to teach this subject, would be a
fantastic qualification to have. It integrates
so well with the library area of a school.
Having skills in the areas of teaching, library and technology would
make you very, very employable. You
would have so much knowledge to draw on to be able to cover all areas and
really do a great job and become an invaluable employee.
